Step 1 - Examination and discussion

Your crown is then designed on screen, matched carefully to the colour and shape of your natural teeth, and milled from a ceramic block right here in the practice while you relax.
Step 5 - Fitting and finishing

Are same day crowns as strong as traditional crowns?

How long does a same day crown appointment take?
Around two to three hours from start to finish, including the gentle preparation, digital scanning, crown milling and final fitting. You're welcome to bring something to read, or simply relax in the surgery while your crown is being made.
Will my same day crown look natural?
Yes - genuinely beautifully so. Modern ceramic blocks come in a wide range of natural shades, and your dentist will match yours carefully to the surrounding teeth. Most patients can't tell which tooth is the crown.
How long does a same day crown last?
With good home care and regular hygiene visits, a well-made same day crown can last for many years - often 15 to 20 or more. Looking after the gum around the crown is just as important as looking after the crown itself.
Is the procedure uncomfortable?
The tooth is fully numbed throughout, and most patients say it feels very similar to having a filling. Mild sensitivity in the days afterwards is normal and settles quickly. For very anxious patients, IV sedation is also an option.
Can same day crowns be used after root canal treatment?
Yes - and it's often the ideal solution. A tooth that's had root canal treatment usually needs a crown to protect it long-term, and being able to fit it the same day means less time without proper protection.
What's the difference between a crown and a veneer?
