A routine check-up is the simplest, gentlest way to keep your smile healthy for years to come. We'll spot anything early, talk you through what we see, and only ever recommend treatment that's genuinely needed.

A dental check-up is a thorough but gentle review of the health of your teeth, gums and mouth. It's the foundation of preventive dentistry - the chance to catch small things before they become big things, and to make sure everything is on track between visits.

Most dental problems start quietly. A small cavity. A bit of gum inflammation. A tooth that's wearing slightly faster than the rest. None of these will hurt at first - but left alone, they can grow into the kind of problems that need bigger, more expensive treatment.

For over 30 years, we've looked after generations of families across Richmond Hill, Kew, East Sheen and TW10. Our quiet philosophy has always been the same - prevent, don't repair. That means more time spent talking, looking and educating, and far less time drilling.

Your routine examination is a proper, unhurried look at the whole picture:
We've designed every step of your visit to feel calm, clear and personal. Here's exactly what to expect.

You'll be greeted at reception by a familiar friendly face and shown through to a comfortable surgery, with time to settle in before your dentist begins.
Before any examination, your dentist will sit and chat with you about how you've been, anything that's been bothering you, and what you're hoping to get from your visit.
We'll then carefully check your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, taking digital scans or low-dose X-rays only where they're genuinely needed.
You'll leave knowing exactly what we've seen, what (if anything) needs attention, and what your options are - with a written estimate where treatment is recommended.

Our practice uses Primescan and iTero digital scanners, which means we can map your mouth in stunning detail without any of the messy impressions older patients might remember. Your scans become part of your long-term record, helping us spot subtle changes early.

We genuinely love seeing children, and we work hard to make their first visits feel positive rather than scary. A child's check-up is gentle, friendly, and centred around building confidence. We'll happily count their teeth, show them around the surgery, and let them sit on a parent's lap if they'd prefer.

For most adults, every six months works well. Children, patients with a history of decay or gum disease, or those undergoing orthodontic treatment may benefit from coming a little more often. We'll always recommend the schedule that's genuinely right for you.

We're a fully private practice, with transparent pricing on every visit:

How long does a dental check-up take?
A routine check-up usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes. New patient appointments are slightly longer (around 45 minutes), as we like to take our time getting to know you and your medical history properly.
Do I need X-rays at every check-up?
No. We only take X-rays when there's a clear clinical reason - usually every 12 to 24 months for healthy adults, and less often for low-risk patients. Our digital X-rays use the lowest possible dose of radiation.
What if you find something wrong at my check-up?
We'll explain clearly what we've seen, show you on screen where helpful, and talk through your options with no pressure. You'll leave with a written estimate, and you can take all the time you need to decide.
Can I bring my child to my own check-up?
Yes, that's often a lovely way to introduce little ones to the dental chair gently. Many children happily climb up for a quick "ride" while a parent is being seen, which makes their own first visit far less daunting.
What's the difference between a check-up and a hygiene appointment?
A check-up is a clinical examination by a dentist. A hygiene appointment is a dedicated cleaning visit with one of our hygienists. Most patients benefit from both, usually on alternating six-monthly visits.
I haven't been to the dentist in years. Will you judge me?
Not even slightly. We see patients every week who haven't been in a chair for many years. There's never any judgement, just a gentle welcome and a calm plan for getting you back on track.
